Americans envision working well into their 60s before retiring, but reality can look much different. This has been an ongoing disconnect with findings of what age people think they will retire and the age they actually do retire. Over the years that retirees’ reported retirement age has been about five years younger than non-retirees’ expected retirement age.
This underscores the challenge in planning for a retirement that may come sooner than expected, whether the decision is voluntary or not. Plan earlier than expected for both the financial AND non-financial aspects of this transition.
