Fewer older adults transition from worker bee to retiree in a single day; more are trying gradual ‘phased’ transitions out of the labor force.
There have been more of these types of articles about “phasing” into retirement. In theory, I agree it can be a great option for people to consider. What I don’t see, however, is it being something a large number of companies are offering. And if they do, it only seems to be for certain employees. It is also a difficult conversation for many future retirees to have with their employer- for fear it may affect their final time at their company.
These types of articles do bring awareness to “phased retirement” and provide discussion around the topic.
For those who can phase into retirement it can be a great option. When working with clients it is important to understand when it might work and when it may not.
