Nearly half of all dementia cases could be delayed or prevented altogether by addressing 14 possible risk factors, including vision loss and high cholesterol. That is the key finding of a new study that we and our colleagues published in the journal The Lancet.
The report also noted that addressing them could reduce dementia rates by 45%.
As someone who has a family history of dementia, research like this is promising, shows that many of the factors are controllable, and what risk factors to focus on controlling. We just need to follow what the research is telling us and make the needed changes.
